Safety & Access Requirements

Safety is our top priority

Please review our safety and access rules to make your experience at SHARC fun, safe and stress free for yourself and those around you.

For the safety of all guests – SHARC lifeguards and staff have the final authority on rules and safety regulations and may enforce additional rules that are not listed here. Those who fail to follow safety rules and requirements may be asked to leave the facility.

Smoke & Weather Hazards

Aquatic availability subject to change due things out of our control such as county occupancy limits, hazardous air quality, biohazard-type incidents (poo, vomit), maintenance, breakdowns, lightning/thunder or inclement weather.

  • Lightning: All aquatics will be evacuated during an electrical storm and remain closed until the threat has passed. Pools will reopen 30 minutes after the last lightning/thunder event.
  • Wildfire smoke: Should air quality reach unhealthful levels of 151 or higher, SROA-managed recreational facilities will close until the air quality improves to protect the health of staff and visitors. Read regulation under OSHA/Oregon state. .
  • There are no refunds for unexpected closures.

Staff utilize static and handheld air monitors at SHARC as well as other sources to check for air quality levels – which need to remain below 151 for a period of time to open and/or reopen facilities. These are accurate readings for SHARC/Sunriver; not the reading you may get on your phone as those air monitors are not in Sunriver. We do not follow DEQ's monitors as there are none currently located in Sunriver.

Health & Safety Rules

  • Children 6 yrs of age and younger must be within arms reach of parents/guardian at all times, regardless if they are wearing a lifejacket.
  • ALL DIAPERED CHILDREN must wear a reusable SWIM PANT over their diaper when using any pool. NOTE: This is not the same as a disposable “swim diaper,” which is inefficient at keeping fecal matter from contaminating the water. Any fecal accidents will close down the pool for treatment. Swim pants are available for sale at the front desk. Swim pants can be worn until the child outgrows it.
  • Do not changed diapers at poolside... please use a restroom and put dirty diapers in the trash.
  • You must be 12 or older to visit SHARC without an adult. Under the age of 12 must be accompanied by someone 16 and older.
  • Must be 16 and older to use the hot tub/spa.
  • WATER SLIDE USE: Must be a minimum of 48" in to ride the tube slide and a minimum of 42" for the body slide.
  • Do not use the pool if you show any signs of illness or have had diarrhea in the past two weeks. This is especially important for diapered children.
  • Do not swallow the water.
  • Lifejackets must be Coast Guard approved (no inflatable water wings allowed). A limited amount of approved lifejackets are available at SHARC.
  • NO snorkels (including full-face mask/snorkel) or fins allowed in pool. Masks and swimming-style goggles are allowed.
  • No inflatable items allowed. Noodles, dive rings, small sponge and mini Nerf balls are the only toys allowed in the pools and only when it is not crowded.
  • No running or rough housing in or around the pools, pool decks or hot tub areas.
  • No diving.
  • No person under the influence of alcohol may use the pool or hot tub.
  • Tobacco products (including chew and oral nicotine pouches), smoking and vaping are prohibited at all SROA facilities (including pool side). If you must partake, please exit the facility and do so in your vehicle.

General Guidelines

  • SHARC is NOT part of Sunriver Resort. It is owned and operated by the Sunriver Owners Association. Anyone is welcome to use the aquatics via a gate admission fee or an SROA-provided recreation access card.
  • OCCUPANCY LIMITS: Aquatics subject to maximum occupancy codes set by Deschutes County. If full, there may be a wait time to enter the facility.
  • FOOD & DRINK: No outside food or drink permitted when the cafe is in operation. Food may only be consumed on the outdoor patio. Fillable water bottles OK (no glass). No outside alcohol permitted.
  • TOWELS: Are not provided. Please bring your own and SHARC has them for sale.
  • DRESS CODE: SHARC is a family-friendly facility and we ask that swimwear be suitable to wear around children.
  • LOUNGE CHAIRS: Limited and available for use on decks only. You may bring your own chair, blanket, etc. to use on the grass.
  • SHADE: Shade umbrellas are limited. You can bring your own shade, but it must be a small pop-up or umbrella that does not stick into the ground (larger structures, such as pop-up canopies, are not allowed). Umbrellas must be attached to the fence (rope, bungee cord, etc.) so they do not blow in the wind and become a hazard. We ask anyone bringing their own shade structure set up along the fence line.
  • LOCKERS are day use only. Locks are available for purchase at front desk (or you may bring your own lock).
  • ANIMALS: No pets/animals in the SHARC facility, outdoor amphitheater or in any pool areas.
  • SHARC is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

ADA

  • All of SHARC's pools are ADA accessible with the exception of the outdoor adult hot tub. There are ADA lifts and a wheelchair that can be rolled into the pools with zero-entry access. For further questions and specifics, please call 541-585-5000.

Clean Before You Swim

A cleansing shower to remove dirt and lotions (which react with chlorine) will help  reduce the harsh smell of chlorine on your body and burning eyes.

Break For The Bathroom

Take regular bathroom breaks, at least once per hour, to prevent any accidents in the pool. For children who aren't toilet trained, a reusable swim pant over their diaper is required. To avoid accidents, please take children to the bathroom frequently.
